Man Arrested After Chase Through Baldwin Park

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla —

Orange County Sheriff Deputies arrested a man Friday night after a chase through Baldwin Park.

Deputies say the chase started when they tried to pull over Thomas Singleton near Old Cheney Highway at around 8:30 PM. Deputies had been searching the area for known drug dealers.

When deputies tried to pull Singleton over, Singleton tried to ram the deputy’s car.

“As he tried to do a traffic stop on it, the vehicle got beside him and tried to run into him. He had to take evasive action by driving off the road,” said Sgt. Paul Hopkins with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Cheney eventually spun out his car on Semoran Boulevard near Auvers Boulevard when deputies used a PIT maneuver.

“The PIT maneuver is a way deputies can get beside the vehicle and they actually are able to touch bumpers with the vehicles back end to spin out of control,” Hopkins said.

But the chase didn’t end there. After he crashed his vehicle, he ran away on foot. Deputies eventually caught him about 75 yards away at a nearby apartment complex.

Deputies say they found a small bag of cocaine and nearly $500 in cash inside Singleton’s car.

Singleton is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Felony Fleeing, and Possession of Cocaine.
