James L Toles, 19, was killed and at least seven other people were taken to area hospitals.
“All I know is I was heading northbound and the next thing I know is I’m spinning head first into this thing,” Saturn driver Howard Bryan said (watch interview).
Troopers believe that a Dodge Durango and a Saturn collided first. The occupants from the Durango got out of the car to call 911. Michelle Jones, 40, James Toles and 18-year-old Michael D. Jones from Georgia, were the occupants in the Durango.
FHP says James Toles and Micheal Jones were struck by another vehicle and Toles was killed upon impact. Jones was taken to the hosp[ital in critical condition. Michelle Jones suffered minor injuries.
“And that’s not the worst. The worst was that poor man who got hit,” Bryan said.
Troopers say two more cars hit the Durango and one vehicle also hit the people.
The man is dead and the woman was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center and is critical condition. .
“We believe this is holiday-related. People going back and forth, because several vehicles have out-of-state tags,” said Channgin Taylor of the Florida Highway Patrol.
“It is heartbreaking, especially around the holidays. We ask people to use caution when driving,” Taylor said.
Palm Bay medics worked on ten people. Troopers are still in the process of determining who was involved and the extent of their injuries.
