ORLANDO, Fla. —
Just like the people coming for meals, the Orlando Union Rescue Mission is having a hard time making ends meet. They get at least 80 calls a day asking for help, but they’ve experienced significant decreases in contributions, almost 20 percent; it’s an especially big drop considering they don’t get any government money.
All that was being set aside Friday; the meal is about renewal and reaching out to the folks who need it most.
There is a half-hour chapel visit first and then those in need get a free hot meal and hygiene products, if they want them
“It’s not just food, it’s fellowship. It’s a chance to be in a safe environment where you know you’re safe, a chance to relax, to get in out of the heat,” said homeless man David Price.
The Mission is going to be serving until 2:00pm Friday. Last year they fed 700. This year, they expect at least that many and probably more.
