New Charge Against AIDS-Infected Molestation Suspect

EDGEWATER, Fla. —

A Volusia County man accused of molesting three young chidren will face a judge Tuesday. Charges against Brian Follmer are severe because, prosecutors said, he has AIDS and may have transmitted the disease to his victims.

Seasoned detectives at the Edgewater Police Department said it is one of the worst crimes they have ever had to investigate and now another young child has come forward with some serious accusations.

Follmer is already charged with molesting a set of 8-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, while he was supposed to be babysitting them.

Up until this point, investigators said, the contact was through clothing. It was somewhat of a relief, considering Follmer has admitted he has full-blown AIDS.

Edgewater Detective Jo Anne Winston said the new accusation involves skin to skin contact with a 5-year-old girl. Investigators interviewed the girl Friday, she said.

The child was also being cared for at Follmer's apartment when the incident occurred, Winston said.

Investigators are horrified that this case of molestation could have deadly consequences.

"It takes it to a whole new level. The crime, in and of itself, is horrendous. To add that on top of it, it's indescribable," Winston said.

Investigators plan to interview two other children, 4-and 5-year-old boys, and are looking to see if there are any other potential victims.

Follmer is now charged with a count of capital sexual battery, in addition to his lewd and lascivious charges from the twins. He is being held at the Volusia County jail.
