Orlando Gas Station Says Convenience Has Its Price, Sells $5 Gas

ORLANDO, Fla. —

The average price of gas in Orlando went up two cents overnight to $3.72, inching closer to $4 a gallon, but at one local station gas costs a lot more than that.

At Suncoast Energy's near Orlando International Airport, the owner is charging more than $5 a gallon. If you have a 15-gallon tank on your vehicle it would cost at least $75 to fill up at the station and an 18-gallon tank costs at least $90 for a full tank.

When drivers pull into the Suncoast Energy's gas station on South Semoran Boulevard they don't know how much they're going to pay until they get to the pump.

"We just looked for a gas station and we saw the price and were like 'wow'," said Asma Farhi, an Orlando driver.

The gas station is charging $4.99 a gallon for regular gas, $5.09 for mid-grade and $5.19 for premium. And it's not against the law as long as the gas station displays its fuel prices at each pump.

"It's ridiculous. Just terrible. We pay $3.60 at home," said Kelly Richardson, a tourist.

Richardson lives in North Dakota. She was on her way to the airport and had to return her rental car across the street at Hertz.

She said paying $5 a gallon is a bargain.

"You have to fill up before you return the car because they charge $6.99 at the car rental," she said.

In a statement the gas station defended its prices.

'Every business takes advantage of a location to make a profit. Convenience always has a price in the market place," the letter said.

Customers have filed 16 complaints with the Better Business Bureau since 2006. The owners have resolved or tried to resolve all the issues.
