People Buying Again Despite Economy

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —

Despite the economy organizers of this year’s Central Florida Home and Garden Show say attendance was up 25 percent compared to last year.

Organizers had been expecting a smaller turnout because of the tight financial times.

“With the economy the way it is we're really excited about the traffic we're seeing this weekend,” said show manager Kyle Collins.

"I did get my income tax check, so we're trying to see what we can do with it," said shopper Michael Peck.

"It shows Central Floridians are recognizing that the economy is turning around," Collins said.

Vendors say people are buying again, but they’re making better, more practical, choices with their money.

This weekend's event was so successful vendors have already started renewing for spots in October's show now. Organizers said they haven't seen that happen in years.
