A 14-year-old boy has confessed to attacking and then raping a woman who worked at a hotel in Lakeland, according to police.

Corey Lee Sutton's mother turned him in, said police.

Investigators said surveillance from a Hyatt Place hotel at the Lakeland Center show Sutton there, and moments later, he sexually battered and robbed an employee that he did not know.

"It is certainly something that shocks the conscience," said Captain Greg Policastro of the Lakeland Police Department.

When Sutton's mom saw the video on the news, she called police to turn her son in.

His mother had reported him missing two days before the attack.

"She's a very caring parent. That entire family is very supportive," said Policastro.

Sutton's criminal record goes back to age 10.

Now at the age of 14, he stands at 5-feet-7-inches and weighs 215 pounds.

Investigators said on Sunday night, Sutton walked up to the Hyatt employee, who was sitting in a break area, and said, "I'm sorry, excuse me."

Police said she looked down and started using her cell phone, and that's when he attacked her.

An arrest affidavit said he "choked the victim to the point of unconsciousness," and "repeatedly hit her face, causing extensive cuts, bruises and fractures."

Sutton then sexually assaulted her, police said.

"It is very scary," said Sutton's neighbor Juan Morales. "My kid plays with them. That ain't going to happen again, that's for sure."

Police said Sutton faces several charges, including attempted second-degree murder.

The Hyatt Place told WFTV in a statement, "The safety and security of our guests and associates is a top priority at Hyatt Place Lakeland Center.  Our hearts go out to our associate and her family."
