Rumors Of Student Hit List Cause School Scare

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. —

Wild rumors about a student hit list caused a major scare Friday at Poinciana High School. Osceola County sheriff's deputies searched the campus, but found nothing.

The sheriff's office said all there appeared to be are rumors. The rumors started flying earlier this week until last night, when someone was concerned enough to call 911.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office wasn't taking any chances about the rumored hit list and had 10 extra patrol units on campus Friday morning. They searched outside the school, as well as inside, and said they found nothing suspicious.

In fact, it appears the rumor may have started with a misunderstood conversation about a video game. But, with the speed of text messaging, it may have changed into something else.

A criminal investigation team was staying on campus Friday to conduct student interviews to determine if it was a rumor gone awry or if someone intentionally wanted to disrupt school. If it's the latter, there could be charges.

School officials said a letter will go home to parents explaining the situation.
