School Bus Crashes Into Pond, Driver Hurt

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. —

A Brevard County school bus driver was injured after a bus carrying high school students ended up in a pond on Wednesday morning, according to officials.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the bus driver, 67-year-old Ronald Bacchi, had a medical episode and passed out before driving the front end of the bus into the pond near Crane Creek Boulevard at Murrell Road in Melbourne.

Officials said the crash happened at around 8:15 a.m. Officials said the bus drove over four lanes of traffic before crashing into the pond. No one was hit.

They said the school bus was loaded with 26 Viera High School students. Officials said all the students got off the bus safely and were not injured.

Bacchi was taken to a hospital. Officials said he suffered minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.

No further details are available at this time.
