OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. —
Gov. Rick Scott issued an executive order on Monday to suspend the Osceola County Clerk of Courts, WFTV was told.
Authorities said Malcom Thompson was charged with shoving one of his employees and assaulting another.
Thompson told WFTV that he's been advised not to grant interviews.
WFTV called the clerk's office and spoke with the alleged victim who accused Thompson of shoving her. She referred WFTV's questions to the office attorney, Rodolfo Celis.
"From what we've read in the reports, it seems like he's a bully. You've been around him before. Does he come off that way?" WFTV asked.
"Uh, that's not my impression," said Celis.
Celis has only been on the job for a week. He was hired after the alleged battery and a later alleged assault took place.
"With this cloud hanging over the clerks head, can the public be assured that things are functioning properly?" asked WFTV.
"Absolutely, the office continues to run as normal," Celis said.
Under the Scott's order, Thompson will not be paid while the case is being resolved.
In the late 1990s, Thompson was honored after he shot and killed a man who shot him in Kissimmee.
