ORLANDO, Fla. —
The daycare center had everything set for the holidays. Then, one week before the big day, someone broke in and stole almost everything they had. Thieves ransacked and robbed the center Thursday night and took everything, from a computer to Christmas gifts.
“This morning, when I walked and see'd all this stuff, I was just, oh, blowed down. I don’t have no Christmas spirit,” said Vilee Griggs, who runs the daycare.
Even the turkey and their Christmas tree were taken. The crooks emptied the freezer and fridge and then poured milk all over the floor on their way out.
Mattie Spencer got the news on her way into a ten-hour shift at Taco Bell to make the money that'll be her grandson's Christmas present.
“People work hard for their things and it’s bad for people to take what don’t belong to them,” she said.
Most of the 30 kids attending the daycare come from low income families. For many of them, the daycare's presents would have been the only ones they got this year. Now, she hardly has food to feed them.
“I been walking around all morning. I don’t know what to do or what to tell them,” Griggs said.
The daycare center doesn’t have surveillance video and its insurance wouldn't cover any of the losses. If you would like to help out the daycare, call 407-294-3200 or 407-538-2812.
