MARION COUNTY, Fla. —

Marion County officials said Friday they are taking action to tighten security at its school board meetings. Starting next week, anyone attending a board meeting will have to be screened with a hand-held metal detector.

The security decision comes less than one month after a man opened fire at a school board meeting in Panama City, before killing himself.

Access to the meeting will be limited to one door, where a police office will use the metal detector.
