WFTV has learned details surrounding a motorcycle crash that shut down Interstate 4 in Seminole County for seven hours late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

State troopers said at least a dozen drivers called 911 about a motorcycle rider and 13-year-old passenger who crashed near Lake Mary.

After crashing, the driver was struck by passing motorists and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Florida Highway Patrol said the teen riding on the back of the motorcycle survived and was able to crawl off of the road as cars sped by.

“Oh, my God,” said one 911 caller. “There is a person in the road!  We're on I-4 heading west.  Oh, my God!”

Those who called 911 said they saw the driver laying helpless on the interstate.

“The person is not getting up. They're dead.  They are probably dead,” another 911 caller said.

FHP officials said the crash scene stretched more than a half mile, which is what caused the massive delay in re-opening the road.

“For reasons we do not know, the driver lost control of the bike,” said Kim Montes of the FHP.

FHP is looking for anyone who was traveling in the Lake Mary area between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday that might be able to help with the investigation.

The teen is in good condition at Arnold Palmer Hospital.
