An Oviedo road was reopened Tuesday after a water main break caused it to close for hours, officials said.

Mitchell Hammock Road was closed from State Road 434 to State Road 426 in Seminole County for hours, according to WFTV traffic reporter Racquel Asa.

Oviedo's utility manager said an old piping system gave out around 4 a.m.

Parents were trying to figure out how to get their kids to school.

"Oh my goodness, in the morning it's backed up so far you wouldn't believe it," said resident Susan Green.

Crews said they lowered the water pressure, which left residents in the area with little water.

"It was trickling very slowly. Nobody could take a shower this morning. It took me a long time to get my coffee pot full," said Green.

Some businesses reported having no water.

"I was calling customers early this morning, letting them know if they need anything they can cut down that street, Clark Street," said business owner Darren Hoffman.

Besides the flooding, police said there was dirt covering the road.

Officials said 10,000 gallons-a-minute flowed from the leak, sending nearly 1.4 million gallons of water over the road during a four-hour period.

Fog and dirt kept workers from seeing the extent of the damage for most of the morning.

FPL crews were also at the scene due to a sinking light pole.
