UCF Student Killed In Head-On Crash

ORLANDO, Fla. —

A University of Central Florida student, who turned 21 years old Sunday morning, was killed in a car crash on her birthday.

Chelsea Torres was driving on the wrong side of Vineland Road in Orlando when her car smashed head-on into another car, an Orlando police report said. The crash happened around 3:15 a.m. near a Florida Turnpike overpass.

Friends stopped by Sunday and left flowers and cards near the crash site.

“She’s an amazing person,” said friend Samantha Devlin.

Torres was studying hospitality and tourism at UCF, friends said. Her Facebook page indicated she graduated from Doctor Phillips High School in Orange County.

“There were a lot of people who loved her,” said friend Chris Silveria. “She was a really good girl with a good heart.”

It is not known where Torres was coming from or going to when she crashed. A police report said she was not wearing a seatbelt. There is no word if alcohol was involved.

The driver of the other vehicle, Elvis Felix, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. He is expected to be fine.
