Van Crashes Through Fence, Lands On Truck

MAITLAND, Fla. —

A bizarre crash in Maitland sent a woman and her 11-year-old daughter to the hospital early Thursday morning. A minivan landed on the bed of a pickup truck that was parked at the Springs Lake Hills apartment complex near Wymore Road (see map) .

According to the Florida Highway Patrol the car was traveling west on I-4, ran off the road, through a fence, into an apartment complex and landed on top of the pickup truck.

An apartment resident, Otis Davis said he woke up to the sound of the crash, rushed outside and said he couldn't believe what he saw.

"There's a car sitting on back of my pickup truck," he said.

Davis said he heard a girl inside the minivan screaming.

"Hysterical, but she's sitting in the car and doesn't know what's going on," he said.

Witnesses said the woman, 34-year-old Nadege Robertson Regis of Orlando, was moaning in pain behind the wheel of the white minivan that was wrapped in a sheath of twisted chain link from the fence. FHP said that parts of the tree and pieces of the fence damaged six other vehicles in the parking lot.

"No one could get close to her. All you could do is to tell her to calm down," said Davis.

Eyewitness News has learned that Regis fell asleep while driving in the van with her daughter. They were being treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center and were expected to recover.
