Our New Favorite Food Finds in Disney World

As much as I love having my favorite foods when I visit Walt Disney World, there's nothing quite like discovering something new. And that's what I love so much about Disney food -- there's always a good balance between tried and true favorites and brand new things that will surprise and delight you. The Disney chefs have been in overdrive lately though, creating some truly incredible new menu items and treats. I've had the chance to taste some of them, and a few others are on the list of must-dos for my next trip. Here's a run-down of some of our favorite new finds in Walt Disney World.

The Grey Stuff Desserts at Be Our Guest Restaurant

Ever since Be Our Guest Restaurant first opened a year ago, we've been a big fan of this New Fantasyland restaurant. And what's not to love? Stepping through the doors is an immersive experience like no other, for you actually feel as though you've stepped into Belle's world from Beauty and the Beast. The food is just as wonderful as the environment, too, with the inventive approach to French cuisine. And while I love dishes like the Braised Pork (now available at dinner too!), one of my favorite menu items is the Master's Cupcake, featuring The Grey Stuff. You know the scene in Be Our Guest where Lumiere sings, "Try the Grey Stuff. It's delicious!" Well, they're right! The Grey Stuff is actually a cookies and cream panna cotta that's been whipped into a creamy dessert. It's been available as a special occasion dessert, but now it tops a chocolate sponge cupcake to comprise The Master's Cupcake. And since I had the chance to sample it recently, it's officially my new favorite Be Our Guest dessert! Also look for more Grey Stuff delicacies, like the Grey Stuff Brownie!

Cone Sandwiches

I love all the fun Cone foods at the Cozy Cone Motel in Disney California Adventure. So I was ecstatic when some of the Cone Sandwiches started making their way eastward, and began showing up in Walt Disney World. What a great concept! Perfect for strolling and eating, the bread cones house a number of different savory fillings. We've tried the Chile Cone Queso and the Meatball Cone at Marketplace Snacks in Downtown Disney. But I can't wait to try all the different varieties at Min and Bill's Dockside Diner at Disney's Hollywood Studios -- especially the Sausage, Marinara, and Mozzarella!

Ice Cream Sandwiches at L’Artisan des Glaces Sorbet and Ice Cream Shop

One of my all-time favorite treats when I'm in Walt Disney World is a Home-made Ice Cream Sandwich. Two enormous, freshly baked cookies are sandwiched together with a couple of scoops of ice cream. It's delicious, comforting, and big enough to share. But L'Artisan des Glaces Ice Cream and Sorbet Shop in Epcot's France Pavilion is offering some wonderful new twists on this classic. They've recently introduced two new versions: a Chocolate Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich and the new Pressed Brioche Ice Cream Sandwich, also known as the Croque Glaces. The soft, slightly chewy macaron contrasts nicely with the rich, house-made ice cream; and the brioche is pressed in a hot iron to make a sealed sandwich that is warm and crisp and cold all at once. While the macaron comes pre-prepared, the brioche option is customizable in a number of different ways. I've had both, and they're definitely worth a try.

New Menu Items at Sommerfest

When a place that you already love becomes even better, that calls for a celebration. And that is what has recently happened at Sommerfest in Epcot's Germany Pavilion. This counter service spot has long been one of our go-to stops for a quick, delicious bite. But recently, they have added some terrific new menu items that have taken it straight to the top of our list of counter service favorites. The Currywurst with House-made Paprika Chips is incredible, with the exotic flavor of curry ketchup. The Leberkäse Reuben features a generous portion of German meatloaf, is very tasty, and is large enough to split! And we may have found our very favorite new mac and cheese at Disney in the rich Nudel Gratin. If it's been a while since you visited this charming spot, I suggest you put it on your list! So, there you have it -- some of our favorite new finds in Walt Disney World. Whether you're after something sweet, or you're looking for a filling sandwich with international flair, or a savory bite while you stroll, I think you'll find some fun new items to add to the list for your next visit. I know I have my list all made out, and it grows by the day! What about you?
