Two arrested in false school shooting report in Winter Haven

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Two Polk County teenagers spent a night in jail after police said they made a false report of a shooting at Winter Haven High School.

Police said a former student and a current student used a stolen two-way radio to report the false shooting on Friday. The callers also said an ambulance was needed, police said.

The school was placed on lockdown and was searched until authorities got word that the teens made it up.

Both teens were arrested Saturday on several charges, including making a false report of commission of crime, disruption of school function and tampering with evidence.

The teens have not been identified. Authorities said more arrests are possible.
