Both parties campaign Tuesday in Florida as presidential election nears

ORLANDO, Fla. — As the November general election grows closer by the day, presidential candidates are kicking their campaigns into high gear, especially in Florida.

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine, was at a campaign event in Orlando on Tuesday.

Kaine was in town for National Voters Registration Day to meet with voters and volunteers.

His visit came a day after a debate between Clinton and her Republican opponent, Donald Trump.

Registering to vote is the first, and perhaps most important, step to take before the general election, Kaine said Tuesday.

"We are putting the word out all across the country, because as of today, Sept. 27, you can still register to vote in every state," he said. "We are asking everyone to register and (for) you to encourage folks, too."

Clinton will be making stops in Broward and St. Lucie counties on Friday.

“Last night's debate was a big victory for Hillary Clinton because she was prepared for the debate and demonstrated that she is prepared to be president. Donald Trump did neither of those two things,” political analyst Rick Fogelsong said. %

Foglesong said that with just 42 days before the election, both campaigns will likely continue to focus on Florida, because of its swing state status.

“Hillary Clinton really needs to attract millennial support. Donald Trump is trying to retain the traditional Republican base, and he needs to keep the support of college-educated white males,” said Foglesong.

Foglesong said the candidates focused during Monday night's debate on lost manufacturing jobs, which is not necessarily important to Floridians.

Foglesong said that leading up to the election, both campaigns are likely to focus on the economic concerns of Florida, whose economy is based on services and home construction.

Trump will hold a rally at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Orlando Melbourne International Airport’s AeroMod Hangar in Melbourne.

Former President Bill Clinton will make appearances across Florida during a bus-stop tour Friday and Saturday.
