Exactly one week after Pulse shooting, church bells ring 49 times

ORLANDO, Fla. — Before sunrise Sunday morning, and before people arrived for Mass, church bells could be heard in the darkness -- one chime for each of the 49 victims we lost at Pulse.

St. James Catholic Cathedral rang the bells at 2:02 a.m. Sunday -- the exact time of the shooting one week earlier.

"I think we're all stunned," Ocoee resident Cindy Alencewicz said. "I mean, there's no doubt about that."

. Fifty balloons were tied to 50 chairs -- 49 for the victims at Pulse and another for Christina Grimmie, the singer from season six of "The Voice," who was

"I'm so sorry that happened. (Because of) the timing, I feel like we kind of forgot about her," Alencewicz said. "She's not forgotten. It was the start of a really bad weekend."

While the stadium is usually filled with the color purple, the colors of the rainbow were mixed in Saturday night. Orlando showing it is united as one, together as a city. We have proven that in the darkness, we find the light, and in difficult times, we find each other.

"It's really hard to put it all together that this would happen in such -- to me -- a small town, so it's been really hard, but I think everyone has come together," Alencewicz said.
