12-year-old receives acceptance offers from California colleges

The Sacramento, California, student had already earned three community college degrees ahead of his acceptance to University of California Davis and University of California Santa Cruz, the Associated Press reported Sunday.

Abraham, who began coursework at American River College, a community college in Sacramento, at the age of 7,  received associates degrees from the university in general science, foreign language studies and math and physical science last year.

"(Initially,) lots of professors didn’t really want me in their classes because I was too young," he said.

But eventually one professor told Abraham he could attend classes if his mother took the class with him.

"There were times when I had to explain general relativity and special relativity to my mom," Abraham said. His mother is a doctor of veterinary medicine.

"In lecture he would always pop up with, 'So, does that mean' or 'What about this?'" Biology professor Marlene Martinez said of Abraham's inquisitive spirit.

Abraham plans on studying biomedical engineering in the fall.

"I think I'll be 18 when I get my M.D.," he said.

As of Sunday, Abraham had not yet decided which university he'll attend, KOVR reported.
