7 things to know now: Trump VP pick coming; Kennedy book; Emmy nominations

Here's a roundup of news trending across the nation and world today.

What to know now:

1. VP pick: Donald Trump says he will announce his choice for a running mate on Friday. Trump said in a tweet Wednesday that the announcement would come at 11 a.m. in Manhattan, adding "Details to follow." Believed to be on the short list for consideration are Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

2.  National conversation: On Thursday, President Obama will lead a discussion on race relations, policing and gun violence following a week that saw two black men killed by police and five Dallas police officers killed by a sniper. "The President and The People: A National Conversation" will be simulcast commercial-free beginning at 8 p.m. ET., across Disney Media Networks — including ABC and ESPN.

3. Kennedy book: Robert F. Kennedy Jr has written a book that lays out a conspiracy theory against his cousin, Michael Skakel, in the death of a teenage neighbor in 1975. Kennedy has long claimed that Skakel was framed for the murder of Martha Moxley, 15, who lived next door to the Skakels in Greenwich, Conn. The murder went unsolved until 2002 when Skakel was arrested and charged in Moxley's  death. Kennedy's book is called "Framed: Why Michael Skakel Spent Over a Decade in Prison for a Murder He Didn't Commit."

4. Convention fight: A fight over just what delegates can or cannot do is being threatened by a group aimed at getting delegates to "vote  their conscience" at next week's Republican National Convention. The group, called Delegates Unbound, have been telling delegates that they may vote for whomever they please, and are not bound to vote for the candidate who won the district they represent. According to Dane Waters, the head of the group, if Delegates Unbound is unable to get the rules changed allowing delegates to vote as they choose prior to the convention, the roll call vote on the floor won't be "some quiet little rodeo." "These individuals are extremely passionate about the right to vote their conscience," he said. "So I can't imagine that people are going to sit around and not do anything."

5. Road rage: According to a survey by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, nearly 8 out of 10 of us have, at least once in the past year, engaged in some form of road rage. According to the survey, the behavior could include following too closely, yelling at another driver, cutting them off or making angry gestures. The report says the most aggressive drivers are males 19 to 39.
