Americans want Donald Trump to quit tweeting, poll shows

Donald Trump should holster his Twitter account, a Quinnipiac University survey shows.

Here’s a recent Trump tweet :

Trump frequently takes to his favorite social media platform to apprise the nation of his plans (minus the people he's blocked on Twitter, that is) and his 140-character updates have sparked alarm in recent days. His breezy tweets about talking with the president of Taiwan and then criticizing China rattled diplomats, as it was a startling departure from protocol.

His tweets concern a wide range of topics.

"Saturday Night Live" aired a skit on Saturday making fun of his busy Twitter finger. By Sunday Trump tweeted about it to complain.

After Vice President-elect Mike Pence was booed at a performance of the Broadway hit "Hamilton," Trump again took to Twitter to vent. The show -- sold out at least through August 2017 -- is "highly overrated," Trump tweeted.  Pence took a less combative approach, saying it was a joy to be in the audience and he took no offense at the cast addressing him directly.

The Independent notes that Quinnipiac's survey "found while 59 per cent of voters feel 'optimistic' under a Trump administration, 59 percent also want to see the president-elect close his social media account on Twitter."

It’s unclear if the president-elect will stop tweeting once in office, but he hasn’t let up since the election. A recent tweet urges viewers to watch a special on Fox about him, hosted by TMZ founder Harvey Levin:
