President Barack Obama was not in town at the time of the incident. He landed in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Sunday to promote diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Asia.
The White House was locked down Friday afternoon after a uniformed Secret Service officer shot an armed person on a street outside the White House.
Obama was away at Andrews Air Force Base at the time.
The Associated Press identified the armed person, who is in critical condition at George Washington University Hospital, as Jesse Oliveri. Officials said there was no known link to terrorism.
