Boy, 9, sells lemonade to help pay adoption costs

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — For Tristan Jacobson, Donnie Davis is mom.

She has taken care of the 9-year-old off and on since he was 3 months old.

The family is currently his kinship guardian and wants to adopt him. It's a matter of paperwork to make things official. That and about $5,000.

They have set up a crowdsource fundraising page and are having a yard sale and Jacobson is selling lemonade at $1 a cup to help pay as well, according to the News-Leader.

The family has raised more than $6,900 through a fundraising page on YouCaring.com.

"It means everything. He is absolutely our son. He is in our hearts," Davis told the News-Leader. "This is more for reassurance for him, knowing that he has his forever family and he has our name."

Davis became Jacobson's guardian after the boy's mother left him on the doorstep of a homeless shelter for children on a cold January day about four years ago. She was living a life of prostitution and abusing drugs, according to KY3.

Jacobson is hopeful for his future with Davis and her family.

"I know she's responsible taking care of me," Jacobson said about Davis to KY3. "And I know she's going to be a great mother."
