Bride takes solo photos to show ‘pain left behind' after police officer fiance was killed

SAINT CLAIR SHORES, Mich. — A Michigan bride was supposed to be celebrating a wedding and a honeymoon over the past few weeks, but when her state police officer fiance was killed in the line of duty last year, those dreams were quickly left behind.

But Nikki Salgot didn’t want to forget the love she had with Sgt. Collin Rose.

She donned her gown, and met with a wedding photographer to document "the pain left behind," The Detroit News reported.

"I wanted to take the photos because I still loved Collin. Our plans were taken, but my love was not," Saigot told The Detroit News.

On the day that was supposed to be her wedding day, she wrote a heartbreaking post on Facebook, saying, "It's been almost a year and it still feels like yesterday he walked out the door for work, and never came home. I loved a hero and paid the price."

She also posted the photos taken by a long-lost classmate who happened to have become a wedding photographer. Rachel Heller, owner of Rachel Smaller Photography, met Salgot to take the photos.

“After not having spoken in nearly 10 years, she dropped everything, the week before her own wedding to make my picture request a reality,” Salgot said.

Salgot said she wanted to show, “I am still just as fierce as ever and refuse to let this define me.”

Rose was a Wayne State university police officer and was shot while investigating car break-ins last November. He died from his wound the next day, NBC News reported.

At the time, police said they were not sure why he was shot, but that he wasn’t specifically targeted. A man was arrested and charged in connection Rose’s shooting,

. Raymond Durham was charged with first-degree murder, but was found incompetent to stand trial in August and ordered to undergo another competence evaluation,
