CERES, Calif. — A swarm of bees in the central California city of Ceres attacked residents in a local neighborhood, killing at least one dog and injuring two men.

Fire officials were called Sunday afternoon to the scene, where they found a man suffering from bee stings, according to CBS 13 Sacramento. The first victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A second victim and two dogs were also stung by the bees, officials said.

One of the dogs, a pit bull, died from its injuries, and a second dog was injured.

Fire officials warned about 45 residents in the area to stay inside while officials addressed the bee threat.

Authorities called in a beekeeper, who helped destroy the hive of angry bees, the Modesto Bee reported. The beekeeper also warned people to stay away from bee hives and to avoid agitating them.
