Florida man shoplifts to get cash for wife's bail on shoplifting charges, police say

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A Florida man was arrested last week after he was caught shoplifting to get the money to bail his wife out of jail, police said.

The wife was jailed for shoplifting.

"File this under 'You just can't make this stuff up,'" Winter Haven, Florida, police wrote on their Facebook page.

Police said 48-year-old Brian Crume was arrested Oct. 19 after he was spotted taking three packs of electric wire from Walmart and walking out without paying. When officers asked him why he took the items, Crume said he was going to sell them on the street for cash.

His wife had been arrested earlier that day for shoplifting, and he needed the money for bail, the police said.

Details of the wife’s arrest were not included in the Facebook post.
