The driver of a Ford Mustang convertible that made headlines for its recklessness in a Hollywood car chase Thursday was reportedly in the U.S. military.
Driver Herschel Reynolds, 20, was a driver for the U.S. Marine Corps before being "prematurely discharged" in January, the Pentagon confirmed to The Los Angeles Times Friday.
Reynolds and the passenger, Isaiah Young, 19, were originally wanted for a burglary.
When a car chase began, viewers were both entertained and concerned as the driver spun donuts and weaved through traffic.
The U.S. military said Reynolds was a motor vehicle operator for the 1st Marine Logistics Group at Camp Pendleton.

Military records show he served with the Marines as a private for almost two years.
"Herschel Reynolds' premature discharge and rank are indicative of the fact that the character of his service was incongruent with Marine Corps' expectations and standards," the Pentagon said in a statement.
Both men are booked in jail on suspicion of burglary, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Jail records say Reynolds is being held on $50,000 bail and Young is held on $80,000 bail.
