Man destroys 160 Memorial Day crosses at park, police say

A man was arrested after driving a car through a Memorial Day display and damaging 160 crosses Saturday.

Anthony Burrus, 27, drove a 1979 Ford Thunderbird through the display at Central Park in Henderson, Kentucky, police said. Investigators found the car abandoned at a McDonald's restaurant with white pieces of wood mashed into the tires.

Burrus was found at his sister's apartment, according to WFIE.

He was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident, police said. Burrus was taken to the Henderson County Detention Center, according to WFIE.

Volunteers worked to replace about 140 of the crosses, according to WFIE.
