MINNEAPOLIS — Security lines have reached near capacity and despite making arrangements to get to airports early, fliers have been complaining of missing flights this travel season.
But one Minneapolis man has had enough, and he's taking the federal government to court over a missed trip.
Hooman Nikizad said that his 90-minute wait in line in March caused him to miss his flight to Los Angeles, The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.
Nikizad told the paper that he had to buy another ticket on another airline to complete his trip.
He is now suing the Transportation Security Administration for $506.85 since the TSA had a limited staff at the time of his flight and only one body scanner working.
Nikizad said that TSA Director Peter Neffenger had visited the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport days prior to his trip because of complaints by travelers about slow security lines and understaffing.
Nikizad said he arrived at the airport two hours before his flight, waited 90 minutes in line and his flight took off nine minutes after its scheduled time.
Despite all of that he was left behind, forced to make other arrangements.
The money he is asking for is to cover the cost of the ticket, extra ground transportation and the fee to file the claim.
