Memphis firefighter one of two men accused of selling stolen car on eBay

BARTLETT, Tenn. — Two men, including a Tennessee firefighter, are behind bars after police said they sold a stolen car on eBay.

The men were arrested after the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office raided a Bartlett home on Carolot Lane Wednesday morning. Six luxury vehicles were confiscated from the home.

Memphis police said Colton Cathey, 22, and Tyrone Nichols, 23, sold a 2014 Lexus to a man in Illinois for $26,000. Authorities say they also gave the victim a fake temporary tag.

The Memphis Fire Department confirmed that Nichols has been with the department since September 2015, and is stationed at Station 33. He is currently off the job with pay, pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

The buyer of the Lexus found out the car was stolen after taking it to a dealership for repairs. The dealer, according to police, found the vehicle’s identification number didn’t match.

Cathey and Nichols are facing theft charges

Cathey's uncle, Carl McDougle, said he doesn't believe the accusations made against his nephew have any basis in fact.

“He’s just a young entrepreneur. He does tattoos. He rents high-end cars out,” McDougle said.

WHBQ uncovered a Facebook business page for Cathey with the name "AxA A1's Xclusive Auto."

Cathey says on the page that he owns a few businesses and he buys gold, silver, shoes and tech devices, in addition to selling exclusive cars and more.

Both Nichols and Cathey have since been released from jail.
