Macy Smith had missed curfew and wasn't answering calls or texts from her brother or mom.

They later learned she wasn’t answering because she hydroplaned while driving near Pilot Mountain and her car rolled before falling down a 25-foot embankment.

Smith's mother, Catrina Alexander, remembered that last year they decided to share their locations with each other through the Find My Friends app.

She checked the app, and after finding out where her daughter was, she immediately called 911.

"Having that location, if we didn't have that, we would have never known where to look. I'm certain that that is what saved her life," said Alexander.

Paramedics were able to remove the 17-year-old from the car and take her to a hospital.

"I definitely feel like God spared my life for a reason," Smith said. "I want to share my message because teenagers need to hear it from me. If you had been through what I've been through, you would never say that you didn't want that app."

Smith has a long road to recovery ahead with a fractured neck and lots of nerve damage, but she is thankful to be alive.
