New York man faces manslaughter charge after beating would-be rapist to death, police say

A man was arrested Tuesday and charged with manslaughter after he beat a man who tried to rape his wife to death with a tire iron, according to NBC 4 New York.

Earl Nash forced his way inside an apartment at the Claremont Village complex in the Bronx around 9 p.m. Monday exposed himself and tried to rip off the clothes of the woman who answered the door, according to the New York Daily News.

The woman said she pleaded with Nash.

"I'll give you money," she said.

"I don't want money," Nash replied, according to investigators. "I'm going to rape you."

Nash tore off her clothes and started to beat her. She was able to call for help reaching her husband Mamadou Diallo, who works as a cab driver, by cellphone.

Diallo's brother Ibrahima said the woman and her sister fought off Nash for about 20 minutes, according to the Daily News.

At some point Nash tried to escape, authorities said. Diallo, 61, arrived at home and his wife pointed our Nash down the hallway. Diallo cornered Nash in the elevator and Nash tried to beat Diallo with a belt but Diallo hit Nash with a tire iron, authorities said.

Nash, 43, suffered a fractured skull and died at Lincoln Hospital.

"While it was going on, I was thinking I was going to die," the victim, 51, told the Daily News. "I told my husband, 'Don't let him out.'"

Nash had 19 previous arrests on charges including drugs, arson, unlawful imprisonment, robbery and assault. He was paroled from prison on July 20, 2015.

He was most recently arrested and charged May 14 with aggravated harassment, according to the Daily News.
