Police: Man wanted for attacking girlfriend, newborn at hospital

TAOS, N.M. — A New Mexico man is wanted by authorities, after being accused of attacking his girlfriend and his newborn child at the hospital.

The incident happened Wednesday night at Holy Cross Hospital in Taos, according to KOB. Police said Rafael Orozco showed up at the hospital sometime overnight, after learning his girlfriend had given birth.

According to police, Orozco struck his girlfriend several times, and also struck his newborn child during the incident. Hospital security guards intervened and discovered that Orozco had a gun. Orozco was able to escape and the hospital went on lockdown.

Authorities are searching for Orozco, who has an extensive criminal history. A friend of the victim said Orozco has committed acts of domestic violence in the past.
