Rapper Lil Jon says Donald Trump called him 'Uncle Tom'

Atlanta rapper and producer Lil Jon said Donald Trump once called him an "Uncle Tom" during his time on Trump's show "Celebrity Apprentice."

According to Rolling Stone, the "Turn Down for What" rapper dressed in an Uncle Sam costume during one of the show's competitions. Trump later jokingly referred to Lil Jon as "Uncle Tom" to show members, "not realizing that Uncle Sam was a patriotic mascot and Uncle Tom was a racial epithet."

"When this 'Uncle Tom' incident happened on 'Celebrity Apprentice' in the boardroom, several of my castmates and I addressed Mr. Trump immediately when we heard the comment," the rapper wrote in a message posted on Twitter. "I can't say if he knew what he was actually saying or not, but he did stop using that term once we explained it's offensiveness."

Atlanta Journal-Constitution radio and TV writer Rodney Ho wrote about Lil Jon's stint on the reality show, noting at the time that Lil Jon "held his own with steadfast tenacity, dollops of creativity and an ability to avoid the mayhem."

"In this case, he didn't clash with the likes of Dennis Rodman, Omarosa or Gary Busey. Despite his wild and crazy video persona, in reality, he comes across as a smart, no-nonsense businessman," Ho wrote.

Lil Jon raised $40,000 for the American Diabetes Association during his 2013 run on the show, in tribute to his mother, who had been diagnosed with diabetes.

Lil Jon also appeared on "Celebrity Apprentice 4," which aired in 2011.

Lil Jon did not explicitly endorse either candidate in his tweet, but he did say that he does not "agree with many of the statements Mr. Trump has said during his current run for President."

It's likely that he values his right to vote, because in 2014, he posted a photo and message on his social media accounts saying he booked a 6 a.m. flight on Election Day to return home to vote.
