VIDEO: Woman in high-speed chase jumps out of rolling car, police say

A police chase through the Detroit area ended with a woman being tackled by police after she led them on a high-speed chase.

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. — A strong tackle ended a high-speed vehicle pursuit on Tuesday.

WJBK reported that when Detroit police officers attempted to pull over a blue Ford transit vehicle in Hamtramck, Michigan, after a call of a possible kidnapping, the female driver took off.

The woman drove her vehicle through residential areas and apartment parking lots, nearly losing control while reaching speeds of 80 mph during the chase, police said.

When officers set up their cars in position to stop the woman’s vehicle, she evaded the roadblock and continued into the intersection, where police said she jumped out of the still-moving van.

The woman, which WWJ reported had blond hair and numerous tattoos, ran toward a sidewalk as a plainclothes officer narrowly missed hitting her with a cruiser. The suspect tried to jump a fence unsuccessfully, and was taken to the ground with a tackle.

No one was found in the vehicle with the woman, and no one was hurt as a result of the pursuit, according to WJBK. The vehicle, which was wanted in Hamtramck and Flint and had a Florida handicapped license plate. City of Detroit Police Department,

commander Timothy Leach told WXYZ it was a "felony vehicle."

The woman, who had not been named as of Tuesday afternoon, was arrested and taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation. She is charged with fleeing police and being in possession of a felony vehicle .
