Patriots Cut Ties With DB Andrews

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

(Sports Network) - The New England Patriots released defensive back Willie Andrews on Tuesday, after the third-year player was arrested for the second time this offseason on Monday.

According to a Tuesday story in the Boston Globe, Andrews was arrested in Lowell, Massachusetts on gun charges after allegedly pulling a gun on his girlfriend during an argument. It was the second scrape with the law during this offseason for Andrews, who was arrested two days after New England's 17-14 loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII and charged with intent to distribute marijuana.

The 24-year-old Andrews, a seventh-round pick by the Pats in 2006, saw most of his time as a special teamer. He had one tackle on defense, with 23 tackles on special teams and returned four kickoffs for 149 yards.

Also on Tuesday, the Pats signed sixth-round draft pick Bo Ruud, a linebacker from Nebraska.
