By Tony Moss, NFL Editor -- (Sports Network) - A couple of new-look offenses will be on display at LP Field on Saturday night, when the Tennessee Titans play host to the St. Louis Rams in the preseason opener for each team.

The homestanding Titans will once again be under the tutelage of coordinator Mike Heimderdinger, who returns to Tennessee following a three-year stint with the Jets (2005) and Broncos (2006-07). Heimerdinger's first stint as offensive coordinator with the Titans encompassed the years 2000-2004, a period of time which resulted in three postseason appearances for the franchise.

In his second tour of duty with the organization, Heimerdinger's directive will be reviving an attack that ranked just 27th in NFL passing offense and 22nd in scoring offense a year ago. Developing the talents of third-year quarterback Vince Young, whose numbers declined in his second season under former offensive coordinator Norm Chow (now in the same position at UCLA) in 2007, will be a major part of that attempted transformation.

Young is expected to see only limited work on Saturday, in keeping with preseason tradition, before yielding to backups Kerry Collins and Ingle Martin.

Also garnering some minutes against the Rams should be speedy rookie running back Chris Johnson (East Carolina), the No. 24 overall pick in the April Draft.

Meanwhile, in St. Louis, veteran NFL coordinator Al Saunders will be doing the play-calling after seven seasons away from the Rams organization.

After serving as associate head coach and wide receivers coach with the Rams in 1999-2000, Saunders went on to achieve success as offensive coordinator with the Chiefs (2001-2005) and Redskins (2006-07).

Saunders was brought in to help restore the reputation of the St. Louis offense, which sunk to 25th in rushing offense and 28th in scoring offense during last year's 3-13 debacle.

One piece of the offensive puzzle Saunders won't have at his disposal on Saturday is former Pro Bowl running back Steven Jackson, who is embroiled in a contract dispute with the team and has not reported to training camp.

Holdovers Antonio Pittman and Brian Leonard should see the first-team reps in Jackson's place against the Titans.

Defensively, the big story for the Rams on Saturday will be the initial appearance in a St. Louis uniform for defensive end and No. 2 overall Draft pick Chris Long (Virginia).

The Titans hold a 6-3 edge in their all-time preseason series with the Rams, including a 28-26 home victory in the last such meeting, prior to the 2002 season.

The most memorable meeting between the two franchises occurred in Super Bowl XXXIV from Atlanta, won by the Rams in thrilling, 23-16, fashion.
