Bengals To Start Fitzpatrick Over Palmer

Saturday, October 11, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Bengals will start Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback on Sunday against the New York Jets, as Carson Palmer continues to recover from an elbow injury.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis made the announcement after practice on Friday and did not rule out the possibility of Palmer being the backup for the game.

"We're trying to get it not a week-to-week thing," said Lewis. "We want to get the thing calmed down so it doesn't give him any irritation or problems at all."

Fitzpatrick started two weeks ago in a 20-12 loss to the Cleveland Browns as he threw for 156 yards and a touchdown along with three interceptions and a fumble.

Palmer started last week's game against Dallas and threw for 217 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, but the Bengals still lost the game, 31-22, to fall to 0-5 on the season.

The 28-year-old Palmer has thrown for 731 yards and three scores with four interceptions in four contests this season.
