Raiders, Falcons Complete Deal For CB Hall

Friday, March 21, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Oakland Raiders' off-season shopping spree continued Thursday, as the club completed a deal with the Falcons for Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall.

The Raiders sent their second-round pick, 34th overall, in this year's draft and a fifth-round pick in 2009 to the Falcons in exchange for Hall. The trade was set earlier this week pending a new contract for Hall, who, much like the other additions to Oakland's roster this offseason, will be paid very well.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Raiders agreed to a seven-year contract with Hall worth a little more than $66 million, with $24.55 million guaranteed. The deal is believed to pay the fourth-year player $30 million over the next three seasons.

Al Davis and the Raiders have been extremely active after a 4-12 finish in 2007. Oakland has signed receivers Javon Walker and Drew Carter, defensive tackles Tommy Kelly and William Joseph, safety Gibril Wilson, and offensive linemen Kwame Harris and Cornell Green to contracts that are reported to be worth more than $150 million combined.

"We're very pleased about the acquisition of DeAngelo Hall to the Raiders," said Raiders Head Coach Lane Kiffin. "This, following offseason signings of Tommy Kelly and Gibril Wilson, we feel have one of the most talented defenses in the league."

The two-time Pro Bowl selection is coming off a season in which he led the Falcons in both interceptions (five) and passes defensed (16) while leading all Atlanta cornerbacks in tackles with 71.

The first-round draft pick in 2004 out of Virginia Tech has recorded 17 interceptions and scored three touchdowns in 57 games.

"I met with Mr. Davis, Lane Kiffin and the defensive coaches and I'm excited to be joining the Raiders," said Hall. "To come out here and see all of the Hall of Famers walking around, their photos posted on the wall, the championships, it's an amazing feeling to be a part of that history and be a part of making history. I'm also looking forward to playing with the talented players already there, and also coming in with Gibril [Wilson]. I look forward to making a contribution to the success of the Raiders."
