Vikings Release Veteran LB Pope

Eden Prairie, MN -- (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Vikings released veteran linebacker Derrick Pope on Friday.Pope, who was signed by Minnesota this past March, started a career-high nine games with the Miami Dolphins last season and posted 64 tackles and two interceptions. Pope originally entered the league as a seventh-round pick of the Dolphins in 2004. A consistent special teams performer throughout his career, Pope has started 14 games at linebacker and through his career has 147 tackles and two sacks along with two picks.
