Former 1st-Rounder McDougle Among Eagles' Final Cuts

Saturday, August 30, 2008

(Sports Network) - Defensive end Jerome McDougle, a former first-round pick who saw his career derailed by a slew of injuries and misfortune, was among the cuts made as the Philadelphia Eagles reached the 53- man roster maximum on Saturday.

McDougle, the No. 13 overall pick in the 2003 Draft, played in just 33 of a possible 80 regular season games over a five-year span, as ankle, knee, and rib ailments, an irregular heartbeat, a gunshot suffered in a robbery attempt, and a torn triceps contributed to his time on the sideline.

Also released by the team on Saturday were cornerback Kyle Arrington, fullback Jed Collins, fullback Jason Davis, wide receiver Michael Gasperson, defensive tackle Mike Marquardt, wide receiver Shaheer McBride, defensive tackle Montae Reagor, linebacker Justin Roland, linebacker Andy Studebaker, tight end Kris Wilson, and guard Scott Young.

Notables among that group include Reagor, the former Colts starter who appeared in seven games as an Eagle a year ago, and Wilson, who played in every game as a Kansas City Chief in 2006-07.

In two additional moves, the Eagles placed tackle King Dunlap (ankle) and guard Mike Gibson (shoulder) on season-ending injured reserve.

As previously reported, the Eagles on Friday released wide receiver Bam Childress, cornerback Therrian Fontenot, cornerback Nick Graham, wide receiver Jamal Jones, running back Ryan Moats (waived/injured), safety Marcus Paschal, offensive lineman Stefan Rodgers, and linebacker Pago Tagofau

The Eagles will open their regular season on Sept. 7, when they host the St. Louis Rams.
