DE Carter Officially Re-Signs With Tampa Bay

POSTED: 11:12 am EDT March 25, 2008

(Sports Network) - Free agent defensive end Kevin Carter re- signed with the Tampa Bay on Tuesday, and returns to the Buccaneers for a second season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Carter, 34, was released by the club in February just before the free agency period officially opened. He had 73 tackles and three sacks for the Bucs in 2007 while starting 14 of 16 contests.

He has played in all 208 games during his 13-year NFL career since being selected as a first-round pick out of Florida in the 1995 draft by St. Louis.

In stints with the Rams, Titans, Dolphins and Bucs, Carter has totaled 100.5 sacks and 315 tackles. Four times during his career, he has recorded double- digit sack totals.

Carter is expected to battle Greg White and newly acquired San Francisco lineman Marques Douglas, who officially signed with the club on Tuesday, for time at left defensive end. That position had been held by Greg Spires for the last six seasons, but Spires was released along with Carter in February.

The Tampa Tribune reported a week ago that Carter accepted a one-year deal worth less than the $3.8 million he made last season. Carter apparently had an offer on the table from Oakland for more guaranteed money, but the veteran chose to stay in Tampa, according to the Tribune.
