Bucs Sign First-Round Pick Talib

Tampa, FL -- (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed first-round draft choice, cornerback Aqib Talib, as well as fifth-round selection, quarterback Josh Johnson, on Friday.Terms of the deals were not disclosed, and both players completed the signings in time to report to training camp. Talib was the 20th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the highest-drafted cornerback in Tampa Bay's franchise history. The Kansas product played in 34 career games -- 32 starts -- and tallied 13 interceptions, ranking second in school history, along with a school-best 322 interception return yards. In addition, Talib had 162 tackles, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and 43 passes defended in his three-year career as a Jayhawk. He also caught nine passes for 224 yards and five touchdowns playing wide receiver. Johnson, drafted out of San Diego, played in 41 career games with 34 starts. He set school records for touchdown passes (113), completions (724), attempts (1,065) and passing yards (9,699), and also rushed for 1,864 yards and 19 career touchdowns. In 2007, Johnson amassed 43 touchdowns and just one interception, and ranked first in the nation with a 198.3 passer rating. He threw for 2,988 yards on 206-of-301 passing.
