Jags Sign QB Garrard To Extension
Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - The Jacksonville Jaguars signed quarterback David Garrard to a contract extension Monday.Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 30-year-old East Carolina product is coming off his first season as a full-time starter, completing 208-of-325 passes for 2,509 yards and 18 touchdowns despite missing three games with an ankle injury. Garrard was named the starter just before the 2007 season opened, winning the job from Byron Leftwich, who was released. Garrard threw just three interceptions on the year and finished with the NFL's third-highest passer rating at 102.2. The Jaguars set single-season franchise records last year with 411 points and 50 touchdowns. The team scored 24 or more points in 10 consecutive games for the first time in club history. A fourth-round pick in 2002, Garrard has played in 40 games and started 30 in his six seasons. He has thrown for 6,052 yards with 36 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, leading Jacksonville to a 19-11 record in his starts.
