Blackhawks Aim To Get In Win Column Versus Preds

(Sports Network) - The Chicago Blackhawks will aim for their first win of the 2008-09 campaign tonight, when they welcome the Nashville Predators for the home opener at the United Center.

Chicago was dealt back-to-back 4-2 losses on the road to begin the season, losing to the New York Rangers on Friday before dropping a decision in Washington the following day.

The Blackhawks were dealt the loss by the Capitals thanks in part to Brooks Laich's game-winning tally with 4:27 left to play. Alexander Ovechkin, last season's goal-scoring leader and reigning MVP, scored twice for Washington.

Kris Versteeg and Jack Skille each scored for the Blackhawks, who have opened the season with back-to-back losses for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. Chicago last dropped three in a row to begin a campaign in 1997-98, when it began the year with seven consecutive losses.

Nikolai Khabibulin was charged with all four goals on 34 shots in the loss.

Nashville, meanwhile, began the year with Friday's 5-2 loss in St. Louis, but was able to rebound in Saturday's home opener against Dallas.

Jason Arnott recorded two power-play goals and added an assist in Nashville's 3-1 decision over the Stars.

Dan Ellis stopped 19-of-20 shots to pick up the victory for Nashville. Shea Weber also scored for the hosts, while J.P. Dumont registered an assist on all three tallies.

The Blackhawks went 5-1-2 against the Central Division rival Predators last season, but Nashville has still taken seven of the last 13 encounters overall.

The Preds have struggled in the Windy City lately, losing three straight and six of their last 10 at the United Center.
