Oilers Sign D Strudwick

Thursday, July 10, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Jason Strudwick to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Strudwick, who will turn 33 on July 17th, joins the Oilers after spending the past three seasons with the New York Rangers.

"Jason is a veteran NHL defenseman who will add depth and a physical presence on our blueline," said Kevin Prendergast, the Oilers' vice president of hockey operations. "A proven leader, he is excited to be returning to his hometown to play and we are looking forward to having him as part of our defensive corps."

Originally selected by the New York Islanders in the third round of the 1994 Entry Draft, Strudwick has 11 goals and 27 assists in 488 career games with the Islanders, Vancouver, Chicago and the Rangers.
