Pittsburgh, PA -- (Sports Network) - Zach Parise's goal with 38 seconds remaining in overtime sent New Jersey past Pittsburgh, 2-1, at Mellon Arena.

With time ticking away in the extra session, Devils forward Travis Zajac sent a long lead pass from his own zone to Parise on the left wing. He took the puck one stride over the blue line and let a wrister go from the left circle which hit the net where the right post meets the crossbar.

Patrik Elias was credited with the other goal for the Devils, who have won their first two regular-season contests.

Martin Brodeur stopped 14 shots for the win, his 540th career positive result. He now trails Hall-of-Fame netminder Patrick Roy by 11 victories for first place on the all-time list.

"I think we did everything we had to, to win," said Zajac. "We put together a 60 minute game, and we needed to do that coming in here. It took a garbage goal to get into overtime, but we kept on putting on the pressure, and got the win."

Miroslav Satan lit the lamp for the Penguins, who have dropped two of three to start the year. Marc-Andre Fleury was spectacular in defeat, making 47 saves.

"We didn't manage the puck well," said Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby. "They're a team that's going to create a lot off of turnovers. We have to make smarter decisions and force them to make mistakes. We didn't do that."

Satan's power-play goal with 8:08 left in the first put the Penguins on the board. The veteran sniper corralled a loose puck at the right side of the crease and stashed it past Brodeur.

Despite brief spurts for both clubs, the second period passed without a goal. Fleury made 15 saves and Brodeur countered with four stops.

During a power play midway through the third, the Devils had two golden chances to get on the board, but Jamie Langenbrunner missed an open net and Parise followed by shooting the rebound into Fleury's back.

After a 20-shot assault on the home team in the final period, New Jersey knotted the game with 2:29 left in regulation. Pens defenseman Hall Gill stripped Elias in close, but his clearing attempt ticked off Fleury and banked into the net.
