Blues Re-Sign Woywitka

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

(Sports Network) - The St. Louis Blues re-signed defenseman Jeff Woywitka to a one-year deal on Wednesday.

Woywitka, 24, split last season with St. Louis and the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League. He registered two goals and six assists in 27 games with the Blues and tallied 10 goals and 20 assists in 52 games with the Rivermen.

"Jeff will add depth and experience to our young core of defensemen," Blues president John Davidson said.

Originally selected 27th overall by Philadelphia in the 2001 NHL Draft, Woywitka has skated in 87 career NHL games, all with St. Louis, recording three goals and 14 assists.

The Vermilion, Alberta native was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers along with defensemen Eric Brewer and Doug Lynch in exchange for defenseman Chris Pronger on August 2, 2005.
